Geoves makes one of the main Italian monitoring networks for the forest fire prevention in the OFIDIA Project (Operational FIre Danger preventIon plAtform).

 

The main target of the project consist in building a transnational operational infrastructure for the prevention of fire hazards that can provide adequate technological tools that facilitate the detection of forest fires through widespread environmental monitoring, the construction of climate models, the prediction of fire hazards and automatic access to historical data.

The monitoring network is divided into 4 macro-areas (Mercadante, Le Cesine, Porto Selvaggio and Ugento) each consisting of a weather station and a series of wireless peripheral sensors mod. BUTTERFLY located in strategic points of the wooded area to alert the on-call staff and the operations center in real time.

The network is completed by a communication system via GPRS with data transmission on the FTP area and alarms via SMS and an operational center for the supervision of the network and the data collection and processing.
