Description
MAIN FEATURES
The W&D device is a passive sampler for the collection of the wet and dry atmospheric depositions.
The sampler, typically used for acid rain monitoring, has two distinct and separate containers, one for dry deposition ("DRY" dusts) and one for wet depositions (rain, snow, dew, etc ... "WET"), which are alternatively covered by a mobile lid activated automatically upon the occurrence of a wet precipitation detected by an electronic rainfall sensor. The sampler heating is controlled by a thermostat circuit that activates at <5 ° C, allowing the lid to be activated even in the presence of snowfall or frost.
The dry and wet samples are collected in specif containers containers made of different types of materials suitable for the type of application and shielded from the sun to avoid the formation of algae in the container of wet depositions. In the underlying part of the lid a sealed material is used to avoid contamination of collected samples by external agents (volatile debris, dust, insects, etc.).
Unlike wet-dry samplers with integrated rain gauge, the W&D Geoves sampler has neither exposed parts, such as eg rain gauge manifolds, tilting buckets, silicone hoses, etc., or aluminum (or other materials) collection orifices that can contaminate the sample. In fact the two WET and DRY containers directly collect the atmospheric depositions that precipitate without passing through funnels, pipelines, rain gauges, etc. which, remaining fixed in the sampler, can no longer be decontaminated. However, the rain gauge can be integrated separately and its measurement can be acquired by an optional Geoves datalogger. The data logger will be able to view, acquire and transmit any sampler diagnostic data.
The Wet & Dry sampler is low consumption therefore it is powered by a 20W photovoltaic panel system and a 12Vdc buffer battery. W&D is also equipped with a heating system for moving parts that can be powered by an optional external 220Vac / 12Vdc power supply unit or by an auxiliary photovoltaic panel system to be sized based on the application needs of the site.
